Nordic Inline Biathlon
Since 2008, we’ve been organising our annual event Nordic Inline Biathlon.
By carrying out this extraordinary event, we would like to increase the public awareness of Nordic cross skating. Surely, many sportsmen are willing to participate in a competition focussed on having fun. To make it even more attractive for the participants and the audience as well, we came up with the idea of a biathlon. The laser light weapons are entirely safe. They can be integrated easily into a competition.
More than 100 sportsmen and -women have participated in the events we have organised so far. On average, 30 people accept the challenge each year. This is quite a remarkable result bearing in mind that Nordic cross skating is such a young sport.
New in 2011
This year we arranged our fourth Nordic Inline Biathlon and it included a few changes. Since these modifications were well received by the participants, we will keep them in the future.
The following points give you an idea of the way we carry out the event:
- The participants are divided into groups of six to eight people. Then, each group starts individually once the previous group has crossed the finishing line.
- Young people and adults skate five rounds of 1.3km each = 6.5km in total. Usually, the fastest skater does not need more than 20 minutes to complete the course.
- In the shooting range, the participants shoot in turns lying – standing – lying – standing. In the last round, no shooting takes place.
- One has as many trials as needed to hit the five biathlon targets.
Even if the number of participants is manageable, the time and effort to organise the event is still significant. Blocking and securing the roads is one of the biggest tasks. In this respect, the voluntary fire brigade Wasbek and many friends support us. A big thanks to them at this point.
